  1. Wow, this was one tricky file to convert. The original .mov file has an AVC High Profile 5.1 which the PS3 doesn’t support, so no matter which converter I used… it didn’t work on the PS3 because of the 5.1 profile; it came up as “Unsupported Data.”

So in the end, after trying endless converters and different settings, I had to use a Hex editor and change it to profile 4.1 manually, which the PS3 plays. But then, no matter what I did the video wouldn’t play for the 1080p file, there was only audio.

The 720p file works fine though, for whatever reason. So I’ve added an MP4 encode for that. Hopefully Apple/Yahoo! put up an HD version soon.

  2. Sorry for putting you through so much trouble….the one thing thing I hate about the ps3 is its in-ability to play .mov and especially .mkv files. Looking forward to build a nice little $500 HTPC in my spare time. Any know which kinda low watt quad core i should be using?

Sorry for the trouble Alex…hopefully with the new Slim PS3 coming out, they’ll add XMBC!

  3. @ Alex, the reason the 1080p may not be playable on the PS3 even though the profile is 4.1 is because of the reference frames, for most video 3-4 is usually used, however on this file it is set at 6 which is uncommon.

Format settings, ReFrames : 6 frames

If my internet connection holds out (keeps dropping, losing connection) I could run the original 1080p file through MeGUI which should do an encode with the correct profile / ReFrames.

I will post again if I can get a working 1080p version onto MegaUpload for you to try on the PS3.
