The Ghost Writer (Featurette – Jumping Ship)

The Ghost Writer Poster When a successful British ghost writer, THE GHOST, agrees to complete the memoirs of former British Prime Minister ADAM LANG, his agent assures him it’s the opportunity of a lifetime. But the project seems doomed from the start—not least because his predecessor on the project, Lang’s long—term aide, died in an unfortunate accident. The Ghost flies out to work on the project, in the middle of winter, to an oceanfront house on an island off the U.S. Eastern seaboard. But the day after he arrives, a former British cabinet minister accuses Lang of authorizing the illegal seizure of suspected terrorists and handing them over for torture by the CIA—a war crime. The controversy brings reporters and protesters swarming to the island mansion where Lang is staying with his wife, RUTH, and his personal assistant (and mistress), AMELIA. As The Ghost works, he begins to uncover clues suggesting his predecessor may have stumbled on a dark secret linking Lang to the CIA—and that somehow this information is hidden in the manuscript he left behind. Was Lang in the service of the American intelligence agency while he was prime minister? And was The Ghost’s predecessor murdered because of the appalling truth he uncovered? Resonating with topical themes, this atmospheric and suspenseful political thriller is a story of deceit and betrayal on every level— sexual, political and literary. In a world in which nothing, and no one, is as it seems, The Ghost quickly discovers that the past can be deadly—and that history is decided by whoever stays alive to write it. (Source)

Multiple Sarcasms (Trailer)

Multiple Sarcasms Poster It’s New York, 1979. Gabriel Richmond is a talented architect with a seemingly rich life as he has a caring wife, loving daughter and life long friends. Yet, he spends most days in the movie theater, hiding out from work, escaping into a fictional world where he can more readily relate to the made up characters. When fiction shines a mirror on his own life, an inspired Gabriel begins writing a play not-so-loosely based on his reality, examining all of the relationships that make his life what it is. At first a hobby, the play begins to consume Gabriel’s own self-examination. Slowly he realizes the fragility of his relationships and overall decisions in life, but does not know what to do with this information other than write about it. Gabriel’s work eventually gains momentum just as his real life begins to fall apart. Equipped with a hand-held tape recorder and typewriter, he begins a journey to re-author his own life, looking back on the pieces of his fractured self. He begins to see that life is not always as controlled as a play or movie and sometimes the best thing an author can do is let the characters speak for themselves. Emblematic of the self-discovery that was hatching in New York (and many other cities) at the end of the 1970’s, Multiple Sarcasms shines a light on not only Gabriel’s life, but also the complex people that make it up. From his wife and daughter to his colleagues at work and lifelong best friend – Gabriel tries to understand these complex people who collectively make up too much of his own self worth. Driven by an ensemble of actors’ actors, Multiple Sarcasms is a touching film that is all at once original and refreshingly derivative. (Source)

She takes Ian captive, refusing to release him until he commits to working on their marriage together. Lymelife (Trailer No. 1)

Lymelife Poster From executive producer Martin Scorsese and producer Alec Baldwin comes ‘Lymelife,’ a funny, biting and loving tribute to the American family directed by Derick Martini, in his directorial debut.

‘Lymelife’ is a story about the dark side of suburban paradise in the 1970s, and the loss of innocence that occurs within two deeply troubled families. The film revolves around an awkward, sensitive 15-year old boy, Scott Bartlett (Rory Culkin), whose family stability is shaken when an outbreak of Lyme disease spreads illness and paranoia around him. Scott’s parents — his workaholic father, Mickey (Alec Baldwin) and overprotective mother, Brenda (Jill Hennessy) — are on the verge of divorce, and his older brother Jim (Kieran Culkin) is about to ship off for war. Scott has also fallen in love with his next door neighbor, the beautiful Adrianna Bragg (Emma Roberts), who seems to be the only person in the world who understands him. Adrianna comes from an equally troubled, less affluent, family whose uptight mother Melissa (Cynthia Nixon) is carrying on a not-so-clandestine love affair, while her father Charlie (Timothy Hutton) is slowly slipping away from the effects of the disease. Profoundly funny and deeply moving, ‘Lymelife’ looks at first love and family dynamics during a time of drastic economic and cultural change. (Source)
