Apple Links Broken Again

Apple HD trailer links are broken again. I currently don’t have time to look too deep into the issue, but from a quick analysis, it looks like the domain www.apple.com has blocked out all access movie trailers. You may recall that the solution that bypassed the QuickTime user agent check was to change the domain movies.apple.com to www.apple.com in the url.

The current workaround is back to setting the user agent and using the movies.apple.com domain. For more information about the workaround, please read Direct Download Links from Apple Are Not Working.

Remember in order for the workaround to work, you have to change the domain from www.apple.com to movies.apple.com, if it’s not already correct.

  1. And this all started because of that damn Avatar teaser, this is an inconvenience for a lot of users. Another reason why Yahoo is my favourite HD content provider, I can put up with slow speeds.

  2. just use getright !!
change the user agent to “QuickTime/7.6.2 (qtver=7.6.2;os=Windows NT 5.1Service Pack 3)” ,use the movies.apple.com trailers (add a “h” before 1080p) and there you go.
    works like a charm !

  3. That works mee, thanks for the tip.

Apple will not have their own way, we will make sure of that ;D

For those with GetRight, open it, click F8, expand the ‘Advanced’ tab, select protocols and copy and paste Mee’s quote in the HTTP user agent box.

  4. Thanks for the user agent tip!

For anyone reading that doesn’t like or want to use wget or GetRight, but does use Firefox this is how I do it:

    1. Get the add-on ‘User Agent Switcher’ from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/59
    2. Get the add-on ‘FireBug’ from http://getfirebug.com/
    3. Add the listed QuickTime user agent to the user agent list.

And then when you want to dl a trailer:
    1. Switch to the QuickTime user agent.
    2. Hit F12, use the Inspect tool to browse to the button HTML, edit the HTML.
    3. Right click the button, save link as.

    GG 🙂

  5. Thanks Krunk@9, i didnt find it earlier.
Its possible to download trailers using only:

    wget -U quicktime link.to.trailer.with.added.h.before.resolution

its a lot shorter thus better 🙂

  6. navi: thanks for the wget info. that worked like a champ on toy story 3. I prefer to use download ’em all when I can but that is a great alternate approach.

  7. I got getright and tried the useragent thing and it did not work for me.

    Any other suggestions

The quicktime alternative use to be able to autodownload the stuff but that does not work anymore either.

think this is purposely driving more people to download itunes?

  8. Seems like all the latest Apple trailers downloadable & all outdated trailers undownloadable,So what’s going on?
Thanks for all your’s & users efforts for making this site.
    Good day.

  9. I made a little Windows tool to download trailers from Apple (also supports other pages):

    Screenshot: http://i46.tinypic.com/2jeokdu.png
    Download: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=D9ZMZY6E

Instructions: Copy a web site URL such as http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/ironman/ or http://www.hd-trailers.net/movie/avatar/ (i.e. a page where the trailers are linked) or a direct mov URL such as http://largeassets.myspacecdn.com/creative/hd/avatar_trlr/100256822_720p.mov and click Continue!
