Apple HD trailer links are broken again. I currently don’t have time to look too deep into the issue, but from a quick analysis, it looks like the domain www.apple.com
has blocked out all access movie trailers. You may recall that the solution that bypassed the QuickTime user agent check was to change the domain movies.apple.com
to www.apple.com
in the url.
The current workaround is back to setting the user agent and using the movies.apple.com
domain. For more information about the workaround, please read Direct Download Links from Apple Are Not Working.
Remember in order for the workaround to work, you have to change the domain from www.apple.com
to movies.apple.com
, if it’s not already correct.

And this all started because of that damn Avatar teaser, this is an inconvenience for a lot of users. Another reason why Yahoo is my favourite HD content provider, I can put up with slow speeds.
I don’t even check Apple’s site anymore since they have watermarks on all their videos.
What download speeds do you usually get IG3N?
For me it depends on the time of the day. Ranges from 400KB/s to 2MB/s.
Well around 100-120kb/s on Yahoo, but I only have a 2MB line (200KB down).
just use getright !!
change the user agent to “QuickTime/7.6.2 (qtver=7.6.2;os=Windows NT 5.1Service Pack 3)” ,use the movies.apple.com trailers (add a “h” before 1080p) and there you go.
works like a charm !
That works mee, thanks for the tip.
Apple will not have their own way, we will make sure of that ;D
For those with GetRight, open it, click F8, expand the ‘Advanced’ tab, select protocols and copy and paste Mee’s quote in the HTTP user agent box.
Thanks mee! One million internets to you :3
Thanks mee@5
It works with wget too, just use –user-agent=’QuickTime/7.6.2 (qtver=7.6.2;os=Windows NT 5.1Service Pack 3)’ option.
Example:
wget –user-agent=’QuickTime/7.6.2 (qtver=7.6.2;os=Windows NT 5.1Service Pack 3)’ http://movies.apple.com/movies/newline/anightmareonelmstreet/nightmareonelmstreet-tlr1_h480p.mov
@navi: Yep, that’s one of the workarounds I’ve listed.
Yahoo is not slow 😉 I download HD trailers from there all the time. They always finished in a matter of secs or 1 minute.
Thanks for the user agent tip!
For anyone reading that doesn’t like or want to use wget or GetRight, but does use Firefox this is how I do it:
1. Get the add-on ‘User Agent Switcher’ from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/59
2. Get the add-on ‘FireBug’ from http://getfirebug.com/
3. Add the listed QuickTime user agent to the user agent list.
And then when you want to dl a trailer:
1. Switch to the QuickTime user agent.
2. Hit F12, use the Inspect tool to browse to the button HTML, edit the HTML.
3. Right click the button, save link as.
GG 🙂
Thanks Krunk@9, i didnt find it earlier.
Its possible to download trailers using only:
wget -U quicktime link.to.trailer.with.added.h.before.resolution
its a lot shorter thus better 🙂
navi: thanks for the wget info. that worked like a champ on toy story 3. I prefer to use download ’em all when I can but that is a great alternate approach.
I got getright and tried the useragent thing and it did not work for me.
Any other suggestions
The quicktime alternative use to be able to autodownload the stuff but that does not work anymore either.
think this is purposely driving more people to download itunes?
I tried to remove ‘movies’ subdomain and it worked, surprised!
An example: if the url from HDTrailer is http://movies.apple.com/movies/independent/badlieutenant/badlieutenant-tlr_h720p.mov, you will change it to http://apple.com/movies/independent/badlieutenant/badlieutenant-tlr_h720p.mov (delete ‘movies.’ string).
@Le Bao Phuc:
Thanks for sending that in. It looks like once again, replacing the subdomain from movies to www is working again.
I hate their trailers anyway… always putting an apple logo on the bottom right corner.
Love the Yahoo! ones, Flashget + fast download.
You have to remove the (h) of all the apple trailers to work.
http://movies.apple.com/movies/independent/bitchslap/bitchslap-tlr1_480p.mov without the (h) i have tried it in the quick time player open url and it worked.
Good Day.
@hdtrailersuser: The purpose of adding the ‘h’ was to get the direct download link (instead of the shortcut file which w/o the h provides).
Seems like all the latest Apple trailers downloadable & all outdated trailers undownloadable,So what’s going on?
Thanks for all your’s & users efforts for making this site.
Good day.
@hdtrailersuser: I don’t know what more you want us to say besides what’s already on this blog.
I made a little Windows tool to download trailers from Apple (also supports other pages):
Screenshot: http://i46.tinypic.com/2jeokdu.png
Download: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=D9ZMZY6E
Instructions: Copy a web site URL such as http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/ironman/ or http://www.hd-trailers.net/movie/avatar/ (i.e. a page where the trailers are linked) or a direct mov URL such as http://largeassets.myspacecdn.com/creative/hd/avatar_trlr/100256822_720p.mov and click Continue!
Hi, Trying to upload Harry Potter Deathly Hallows in 1080 but it says “file does not exist” . Do you have plans to make the 1080 file available? Thanks much!! paul
@PaulB – I replied to you via e-mail yesterday. If you’re having problems with downloading the Deathly Hallows teaser, please use the mirrors provided on http://www.hd-trailers.net/blog/2010/01/03/harry-potter-and-the-deathly-hallows-teaser-2/
@kokabutton
What a solid little application, worked like a charm ! NO HASSLE, scanned with ESET NOD32 CLEAN !
