Even the Rain (Trailer No. 1)

Even the Rain Poster The politics of the past and present begin to merge during the making of a motion picture in this drama from director Iciar Bollain. Spanish movie director Sebastian (Gael Garcia Bernal) and his producer Costa (Luis Tosar) have arrived in Bolivia to shoot a picture about Columbus’s exploration and exploitation of the New World. While Sebastian has come to Bolivia for realistic scenery, Costa has chosen the location for the cheap and abundant supply of labor. An open casting call for extras attracts far more people than the picture needs, but when Costas tries to send them away, one would-be actor, Daniel (Juan Carlos Aduviri), makes a strong and eloquent case for fair treatment of the locals, and Sebastian casts him as Hatuey, the chief of a native tribe who fought the invading Spaniards. As Sebastian stages scenes of revolt against would-be colonists, a real battle is brewing in Colombia — the government has privatized the national water works, and the price of water has jumped by three hundred percent, leading to protests and riots in the streets of Cochabamba. Daniel is one of the activists protesting price gouging for something as essential as water; will Sebastian and his colleagues join him in speaking out against this injustice? Tambien La Iluvia (aka Even The Rain) was an official selection at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival. – Mark Deming, Rovi (Source)

Even the Rain (Theatrical Trailer)

Even the Rain (También la lluvia) (2011) Poster Focuses on Sebastian and Costa, obsessive filmmakers who, in their quest to uncover the myth of Christopher Columbus and resistance to colonial power by Indian rebel Hatuey, ultimately end up embroiled in a modern revolt against Western multinationals in the Bolivian “water wars” brought on by the forced privatization of Bolivia’s leading public water companies in 2000. Even The Rain (Trailer)

Even The Rain Poster The film TAMBIEN LA LLUVIA (Even the Rain), directed by Iciar Bollain and written by Scottish screenwriter Paul Laverty, is about, in the director’s words, [resistance and friendship. It’s a personal journey — an adventure undertaken by characters which brings the past into the present.] The story intertwines Columbus’ arrival in the Americas with the making of a film; it mixes the Spanish crown’s exploitation of gold in the 16th century with the fight for water in Cochabamba in the year 2000. The film takes us from the fiction of a period film to the reality of a film set in a small Bolivian city. And from that reality to another which is deeper and more dramatic, that faced by people with practically no rights, prohibited by law from collecting even the rain. But Tambien la Lluvia (Even the Rain) does much more than compare historic events. It transcends the detail and delves into something much deeper and more universal. Deep down it’s a story about loyalty, camaraderie, and empathy. (Source)

The Limits of Control (Trailer)

The Limits of Control Poster The new movie from filmmaker Jim Jarmusch (“Broken Flowers,” “Down by Law”) is set in the striking and varied landscapes of contemporary Spain (both urban and otherwise). The location shoot there united the writer/director with acclaimed cinematographer Christopher Doyle (“In the Mood for Love,” “Paranoid Park”). Isaach De Bankole stars in the lead role for Mr. Jarmusch; this marks the duo’s fourth collaboration over nearly two decades, following “Night on Earth,” “Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai,” and “Coffee and Cigarettes.” The film also features several other actors with whom Mr. Jarmusch has previously worked, including Alex Descas, John Hurt, Youki Kudoh, Bill Murray, and Tilda Swinton; and actors new to his films, including Hiam Abbass, Gael García Bernal, Paz De La Huerta, Jean-François Stevenín, and Luis Tosar. “The Limits of Control” is the story of a mysterious loner (played by Mr. De Bankole), a stranger, whose activities remain meticulously outside the law. He is in the process of completing a job, yet he trusts no one, and his objectives are not initially divulged. His journey, paradoxically both intently focused and dreamlike, takes him not only across Spain but also through his own consciousness. (Source)
