You may have noticed that once in awhile we have 2 entries for the same movie in our main catalog (e.g. the recent ‘The Green Hornet’ vs ‘Green Hornet’). The reason for that is because different sources uses different movie titles, the most common being adding or dropping ‘The’ from the beginning of a movie title.
I had started working on a mapping system awhile back, but due to time constraints and other priorities, I haven’t able to finish it until now.
I’ve done several sweeps through the trailer library and have mapped all the movies that matched my search criteria. If you see any additional movies that you know is a duplicate, please feel free to contact us and we’ll fix it. Thanks!
thanks a lot!! for the effort you are the best site for trailers !!
Well, it would be quite complex, but I think the Best way to fix that, would be bringing the Movies listed by Numbers, using a list of Names for every Movie, maybe even including differing countries Names for that Movie
like:
“The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” (US-Name)
“Herr der Ringe: Die Gefährten” (German name)
That way, it would also get more easy for people to find a trailer/clip for a movie, that might have a totally diffenrent Name, that might mislead some People just like:
“Nim’s Island”
“Die Insel der Abenteuer” (german Name, means: “The Island of Adventures”)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0410377/
or one of my old Favorites:
“*batteries not included”
“*Das Wunder in der 8. Strasse” (german Name, means “*The Wonder of the 8th Street”)
or annother Favorite:
“SHORT CIRCUIT” + “SHORT CIRCUIT 2”
“Nummer 5 lebt” + “NR.5 GIBT NICHT AUF” (meaning: “Number 5 lives” + “Nr.5 doesn’t give up”)
Since I’m visiting the page from germany, I use examples, that I do know well.
Interesting idea and we do already have a concept of a movie id in our database. However our problem isn’t as complicated as the one you mention.
Most of the times, it’s a missing ‘The’ or the use & instead of ‘and’. The titles we’ve remapped are generally the same. Including all the different names of a movie is an interesting idea. If you have a chance, please make that suggestion over at UserVoice
