A prank goes wrong and threatens to take everyone involved down with it in this independent thriller. Frank (Jon Foster) is the president of a college fraternity who takes a special pride in berating his brothers and terrorizing new pledges. Frank decides to cap off Hell Week by demanding a special show of loyalty — each prospective frat member is given a gun and ordered to rob a convenience store. What the pledges don’t know is a house brother is supposed to follow them and keep them from using the gun, but Kevin (Lou Taylor Pucci) ends up at the wrong store and no one is there to stop him from pulling his gun. Kevin is shot by Mike (Arlen Escarpeta), the store’s night clerk, and when the wounded man returns to the frat house, another pledge, Adam (Trevor Morgan), tries to convince Frank to get him to a doctor before he bleeds to death. Frank, however, doesn’t want himself or the house implicated in the incident; instead, he sends Adam to the store to bring back Mike and clear away any evidence. Adam discovers Mike is someone he knew from high school who isn’t intimidated by him and has no interest in helping him clear up the mess Frank has made. College freshman Adam Buckley sits blindfolded in the back of a van outside of a convenience store as the final step of his initiation into the Sigma Zeta Chi fraternity. Minutes later he finds himself dealing with the fact that a fellow-pledge just got shot while doing it. Frank, the senior fraternity brother in charge of the night’s events, is able to get the injured pledge out of the store alive, but the fraternity’s troubles are just beginning. Thinking they can get out of the situation without taking the pledge to a hospital, Frank decides the group will handle things themselves. But when every move is met with disaster, Adam must find it within himself to go against Frank and his new brothers in order to save his friend’s life. (
Art Bechstein is floundering in his new-found post-college freedom, opting to take the job with the least amount of responsibility he can find (at the appropriately titled Book Barn), while sleep walking through the Series Seven prep courses that will speed him into a job chosen for him by his father, far away from the security of his childhood Pittsburgh. Art’s fortunes begin to change when a chance encounter with freshman roommate and part-time drug dealer Mohammed lands him at a swanky summer party where he falls for the beautifully tipsy Jane Bellweather. The two quickly connect over a late-night plate of pie, but Jane’s on-again off-again boyfriend Cleveland has other plans for the pair. Taking Art hostage from the dreary Book Barn, Cleveland threatens to throw Art off the top of an abandoned steel mill, a hideout that Cleveland romantically calls “The Cloud Factory.” Suspended high above Pittsburgh, Art realizes that his summer has finally begun, what would become the last true summer of his life.
